During the second half on the 16th century, Brantôme, a country gentleman, decides at age forty to quit the battlefields and devote himself entirely to his sole reason for living: women. When he falls seriously ill, he begins to write about all the women he has loved, from the sentimental and passionate widow Victorine to the fascinating Queen Margot. It is his way of paying them a passionate tribute.
