A Landmark Retrospective at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles
"Through this unique collaboration with the Academy Museum, we celebrate cinema’s evolution while honoring the legacy of our films and inspiring future storytellers!"
Sidonie Dumas, CEO of Gaumont, inaugurated the retrospective honoring the world’s oldest active film company with these words.
Since September 11, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles has been celebrating Gaumont’s 130th anniversary with a remarkable program: 13 films, one per decade, showcasing pivotal moments in the company’s history — from Jean-Luc Godard to Max Ophüls, from Carl Theodor Dreyer to Albert Dupontel, and honoring silent-era pioneers such as Alice Guy-Blaché and Émile Cohl.
The retrospective opened with a 35mm screening of Weekend by Jean-Luc Godard to a packed theater. Distributors, producers, talent, and friends of Gaumont and the Academy Museum joined together to celebrate this milestone.
This collaboration with such a renowned institution highlights Gaumont’s lasting influence and recognition on the international stage, in one of the world’s most iconic venues dedicated to cinema: the Academy Museum.
An Iconic Partnership
"I wanted to show films, not posters. Cinema is not a paper museum:
the best way to tell its story is to screen it, in a theater, in front of an audience."
— Sidonie Dumas, CEO of Gaumont
"We are proud to partner with Gaumont, whose history dates back to the very beginnings of the film industry
and who continues to bring unforgettable stories to audiences around the world."
— Amy Homma, President of the Academy Museum
