1860, Yoshiwara, Tokyo's red-light district - a young Japanese noblewoman is driven by circumstances to become a lady of the night. A Russian officer falls in love with the beautiful geisha, who loves him, too. They decide to get married. They are unwillingly caught up in a spy ring. The young woman is shot and the officer dies during an attempt to save her.
