A writer tries to clear up the mystery of Russian spy Richard Sorge, who from 1935 to 1943 was an ambassador at the German embassy in Japan. Sorge leaked out secret war and invasion plans in preparation for the anticipated Soviet takeover of Japan after the war. He was eventually stopped by the diligence of a Japanese colonel... Real interviews of those who knew Sorge, including Hans Otto Meisner, are mixed with stock footage and staged scenes.
