Virgile, a sweet absent-minded young man, is plagued with such bad luck that anything he attempts is doomed to failure. He is hired as a reporter but his first new stories are fiascos. Two friends of his with help from Jackie, a young editor, set up an elaborate scheme to help Virgile become self-confident. It works so well that from then on the young man's courage knows no bounds.
