Chiffon, a sixteen year old girl, is always fighting her mother who is itching to get rid of her. The Duke d'Aubière, a generous man, asks for young woman's hand. Chiffon admires him but rejects the proposal because she is in love with Marc, her step-father's brother. Because the Duke is a good loser and loyal friend, he arranges it so Marc realizes Chiffon loves him, and the young people marry.
