Jordan is up to his ears in debt and his public has abandoned him so he is forced to sell his movie theater, The Splendor, to a rich Italian businessman from the area. As the theater is being dismantled, Jordan recalls its history, his own beginnings at the theater, the arrival of Chantal, the lovely French usher who needed no help to fill the hall, and Luigi, his young, passionate, projectionist. Then a miracle occurs; the public returns and prevents the theater from being closed down.
