Mr. Lacalade, a fifty year old bachelor, goes off to find the sons he had deserted. However, he chooses not to trouble the eldest, who thinks his father is dead, or the other son, who is very fond of his adoptive father. His third son turns out not to be his. But he ends up living with his youngest, getting his son's mother and the boarders of an orphanage in the bargain.
