Charles Beaulieu, a former officer who served in Algeria, agrees to work for the Secret Service and shadow a publisher suspected of being an agent for Beijing. Indeed, the publisher is planning to send a French scientist to a Chinese laboratory and Beaulieu is ordered to kill the scientist. However Beaulieu realizes the odds are stacked against him when he discovers the publisher has been manipulating him.
