The tragic story of the bombing that destroyed the monastery is told by Father Eusebio, a monk who experienced the terrible siege of Montecassino. Each episode of anguish and terror passes before his eyes. He talks about it with the German Captain who ran the small military hospital sheltered in the convent. But it is a graveyard conversation - neither man survived the ordeal of Montecassino.
