Montparnasse, 1919-1920. Young Modigliani drinks to drown his bitter disappointment. He falls in love with Jeanne who decides to live with the artist despite her family's objection. The couple struggles from day to day but repeated failures drive Modigliani back to the bottle. As the artist lays dying in the hospital, a buyer acquires several paintings from Jeanne who hopefully awaits Modigliani's return.
