Brombach, 1941, Paulina, a small shop-keeper and married mother, falls in love with a Polish war prisoner. In Germany at the time, it was forbidden to have sex with foreigners. One day Paulina sends her lover a letter which is recovered by the Gestapo. Stanislaw is arrested and hanged because he refused to accept Aryan status. Adapted from Rolf Hochhuth's novel, Andrzej Wadja's film is a vivid protest against all forms of intolerance.
