Charles and Fernande Josse lead a settled life cheered by Maurice's regular visits. But Fernande and Maurice fall in love; they plan to poison her husband, who uncovers the plan. Charles drinks the decoction, nonetheless Fernande has actually given him a harmless draught because she hasn't the nerve to carry through with the plan. Maurice leaves, Charles forgives his wife, and their life goes on.
