During the German Occupation of France, a village in the Ardennes is hard up to get food supplies. Clovis, a foundry worker, crosses over into the Zone to bring potatoes back feed his family. He manages to do so at the cost of a series of misadventures. However Clovis soon becomes obsessed with hoarding the precious tubers. Tragedy strikes when the starving Germans arrive in the village.
