Josefa, a grocer in a small village, reportedly has a small fortune. Her son Justin, a penniless young singer, tells his composer friend Pierre to try and get some money out of her. But Pierre's attempts with Josefa fall flat. During his stay in the village, Pierre finds out that the grocer made up the story about the stash, and that Justin's father is the local mayor. So Pierre and Josefa successfully approach the mayor for money.
