Michel, a junior lawyer, learns that his client who has been charged with theft has also murdered Madame Roubaix. The victim's son-in-law refuses to use an alibi that will compromise his mistress, and is sentenced to death. Lawyer-client privilege prevents Michel from exposing his client but the man will give himself away.
