Il fornaretto di Venezia

In the sixteenth century, after finding a nobleman's body in the streets of Venice, Pierre, a young baker, is arrested. The examining magistrate, Lorenzo, is convinced of his innocence and does his utmost to defend the young baker during the trial. But the burden of proof is too great and the young man is sentenced to death. At the last minute, when the executioner's sword is poised over Pierre's head, Lorenzo finally confesses he is the murderer, but the sword has already done its deed.
