As the Roman Emperor is about to invade Dacia, a Senator opposing the move is killed by a Dacian. The Senator's son Severus then starts the war. The King of Dacia agrees to sacrifice his son to obtain the gods' protection. The young man's sister Meda is overwhelmed by his loss. Severus is seriously wounded in battle and saved by Meda. The young people fall in love but they belong to different nations, at war.
