Annette is celebrating her daughter's engagement, the prelude to a loveless marriage for money. Three ghosts join the party: one is Annette's late husband, the second her lover. Both blame her for their sad end. The third ghost shows them all when their life began to sour. He was Annette's only love, the man her family would not let her marry. The three ghosts convince Annette to allow her daughter to wed the man she loves.
