La maison du Maltais

In southern Tunisia, Mattéo falls in love with Safia, a prostitute. They move in together and lead a happy life. When Safia becomes pregnant, Mattéo starts smuggling to earn enough money for his future child. Believing him dead, distraught Safia agrees to marry André, a rich collector who takes her to Paris. Three years later, Mattéo shows up in Paris, upsetting the pair's settled life. Realizing what he has done, Mattéo reconciles the two, and commits suicide.
