René Brunel can't stand his wretched existence any longer. He murders an old money-lender and steals her money to prevent his sister from a loveless marriage with an elderly antique-dealer. Soon plagued by remorse, René confides in Lily. The devout young prostitute advises René to turn himself in. At first, he absolutely refuses but overcome by gnawing guilt, he heeds Lily's counsel.
