In P.O.W. camp, Maurice Morand, an unfrocked priest, has an attitude which only strengthens Gérard's sacred calling. To the dismay of his family and fiancée, Gérard enters the Catholic seminary. When he is ordained, he tries to convince Maurice Morand to return to the fold of the Holy Church but the ex-priest refuses and mortally wounds Gérard while trying to silence him.
