A struggling writer, Eddie Morra suffers from persistent writer's block. His flatly life changes completely when one of his friend Vernon gives him a revolutionary new pharmaceutical (NZT) which will allow him to fully utilize his brain's abilities. Now on an NZT-fuelled odyssey, everything Eddie's read, heard or seen is instantly organized and available to him. With this enhanced mental acuity, Eddie soon realizes the possibilities of what he can accomplish are unbounded.

As the former nobody rises to the top of Wall Street, Eddie draws quickly the attention of business mogul Carl Van Loon, who sees this enhanced version of Eddie as the tool to make billions. Yet brutal side effects jeopardize his meteoric ascent. To survive to those who chase him from all sides, Eddie draws more and more on his resources.
