FUZHIPIN, a leading high-tech company, is on the verge of its greatest achievement in artificial intelligence. After years of development, they are in the final stages of testing their Intelligent Non-Biological Agents (INBAs)'anthropomorphic androids and gynoids indistinguishable from humans. The next phase, called 'Test Life,' involves integrating these androids into select homes and workplaces to study human reactions to their presence. If the androids can overcome the 'uncanny valley,' they'll be ready for market release ahead of competitors.
Alex, a psychologist, and one of the scientists spearheading the "Test Life" trials, moves to Mexico with María'an android designed by his late wife'and their two children. María was programmed by Alex's wife, Sara, during her battle with terminal cancer. She designed the android to fulfill her role as a mother and wife' it was her last act of love.
In Edvin's eyes (14), María is a living experiment; for Anver (10), who barely remembers his biological mother, María is simply "Mom." As the family settles in Chiapas, they face hostility from locals towards the androids, and María's role in the family becomes increasingly complex. These tensions force Alex, his children, and even María herself to confront profound ethical and personal dilemmas.
As FUZHIPIN pushes forward with its experiments, Alex begins to uncover the darker truths behind the company's intentions, realizing that he and his family are part of the experiment. Meanwhile, María starts to evolve beyond her programming, raising questions about autonomy, humanity, and control.
