In a waste ground, in front of suburban buildings, three students of Nanterre and two workers of the Renault factory argue about May 1968, some weeks after the events. Godard proposes an alternate editing between the argument of the young people and images of May 1968 -(occupation of La Sorbonne, battles in the streets, barricades).
