The Intouchables, 10 years old already!

,

What if we could go back in time? Poof! It’s 10 years go. We're in 2011 and a certain film is beginning to make waves. A new feature-length film made by two directors who’ve begun making a name for themselves: Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache.

intouchables-2

They’ve already made Let's Be Friends, Those Happy Days and So Happy Together. This mad project, The Intouchables, an adaptation of A Second Wind: A Memoir written by Philippe Pozzo di Borgo and published in 2001, will be their fourth feature-length film together. As for the cast, François Cluzet and Omar Sy were obvious choices for the film’s leading duo. And the rest of the story we already know and love. After incredible preview screenings throughout France, this film, which was to make an indelible mark on French cinema, warmed the hearts of critics and public audiences alike!

The story of The Intouchables is as incredible as that of its protagonist Driss. It was the most-watched film in France in 2011 and set a record for the longest run as the country’s number one film, having spent 10 weeks at the top. The Intouchables wasn't just a success in France; it’s also the most-watched French film worldwide with 51.5 million tickets sold.

The film was nominated for the Golden Globe for best foreign-language film and received a plethora of awards including, for example, the Japan Academy Prize for best foreign film and the award for London’s Favourite French Film. In France, it won the César for best actor for Omar Sy, the TF1 audience award, best French film award and Trophy of Trophies award at the French Trophy Awards (2012), the Globes de Cristal awards for best film and best actor for Omar Sy (2012), and many more. Overall, The Intouchables won nearly 30 international awards.

10 years ago, we experienced an incredible moment in the history of cinema with the whole team and seeing this film touch people as much now as it did then brings us all great joy.

And what would cinema be if it weren't for stories, making history and writing new chapters together?

Thank you all so much for embracing The Intouchables and we hope to experience and relive thrills like this one in the future!
