Then, after beautiful shots of landscape (a lake, the sky), we get back to Godard and Miéville on a couch, talking about images, television and cinema.

Synopsis :  In the French army used a brutal technique in its attempt to prevent mutinies by its increasingly disaffected soldiers. After lining a unit up on parade, one randomly chosen soldier would be required to step forward and he would be shot, as an example to the others that refusal to fight would not be tolerated. he would go down on the record books as having been a traitor to his country. The general known as "the butcher of Hurlus" was particularly enthusiastic in his use of this technique. This film is an adaptation of Jean amila's novel Le Boucher des Hurlus. The story, set in the aftermath of the war, concerns Michel a young man orphaned in this manner. He lives with his mother until she collapses under the wave of vituperation from the women in her community, who consider her murdered husband to have been a traitor. When he is sent to an orphanage, he discovers that many children in it are there for the same reason he is. Michel decides to escape his captivity and kill the general who ordered his father's death. He and the other children llike him are able to get away from the orphanage, in the course of their journeys, they tour the grim battlefields of the recent war. Together, they return to Paris, determined to exact their revenge.

Synopsis :  Albert Raynal has invented a space ship that is now ready for testing. After a successful take-off, the rocket explodes in mid-air. The rocket's failure immediately prompts the bank to withdraw its funds from the project. In discouragement Raynal gives up his research and steals off to a country inn. Synopsis :  Until now business has been good for big boss "Light-haired Louis" and his henchmen, Fredo, Pepito and Raymond. But the attack of an armored bank goes wrong: Raymond is shot and Louis arrested. The latter suspects Fredo of having turned him in. Pepito is sure that the stool pigeon is Louis' younger brother, who is prohibited from entering French territory and who is ready to do anything to be able to see his girlfriend. Synopsis :  Jordan is up to his ears in debt and his public has abandoned him so he is forced to sell his movie theater, The Splendor, to a rich Italian businessman from the area. As the theater is being dismantled, Jordan recalls its history, his own beginnings at the theater, the arrival of Chantal, the lovely French usher who needed no help to fill the hall, and Luigi, his young, passionate, projectionist. Then a miracle occurs; the public returns and prevents the theater from being closed down.
