Synopsis : Sous le règne de Louis XV, le mécontentement gronde dans le peuple, parmi les opposants se trouve Mandrin, hostile à tout ce qui accable les pauvres. Ce dernier devient hors-la-loi et acquiert une réputation de justicier. Tout en gardant sa fiancée, Antoinette, dans son coeur, il s'éprend de Myrtille, une jeune bohémienne croisée sur sa route.
