Synopsis : En el tramo final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Nápoles acaba de ser liberada por las fuerzas aliadas. La ciudad se encuentra sumida en la miseria. Entre las ruinas, las mujeres se prostituyen y ofrecen a sus hijos como mercancía sexual, los prisioneros alemanes son vendidos al peso y los tanques son desmontados en pleno centro por hábiles muchachos que buscan cómo sobrevivir en un panorama incierto, en el que nadie sabe todavía cuándo acabará la guerra y en el que lo único claro parece el hambre. En este desolador contexto se desarrolla la acción, protagonizada por Curzio Malaparte, capitán del Cuerpo Italiano de Liberación, y autor real de la novela en la que se inspira esta adaptación, dirigida por Liliana Cavani
